Industry Certifications
The Polk State College Engineering Technology Program’s core coursework aligns with the nationally recognized Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) Certified Production Technician (CPT) designation. After completing coursework, the individual is prepared to take the four MSSC assessments for CPT certification. MSSC certification validates that the individual has the technical, functional, and academic skills necessary to work in modern manufacturing. The Program’s curriculum covers the MSSC’s four core competency areas:
- Manufacturing Processes and Production
- Maintenance Awareness
- Quality and Continuous Improvement
- Safety
A student who has already earned an MSSC CPT designation is eligible for 15 articulated credits toward the 60-credit-hour degree. These articulated credits apply to the following specific courses:
- ETI 1420C Manufacturing Processes and Materials
- ETI 1002C Introduction to Advanced Manufacturing
- ETI 1110C Introduction to Quality
- ETI 1701C Industrial Safety
- ETM 1010C Mechanical Measurements and Instrumentation
A Polk State College student wishing to obtain the articulated credit for the MSSC CPT credential can verify achievement with a Polk State Academic Advisor to apply these credits to the academic transcript.
In addition to the MSSC CPT Designation, an Engineering Technology student also has the opportunity to earn industry certifications such as the American Society for Quality—Certified Quality Improvement Associate (ASQ–CQIA), Society of Manufacturing Engineers Lean Bronze Certification (SME/ASQ/Shingo Prize—Lean Bronze), and International Society of Instrumentation—Certified Control Systems Technician (ISA–CCST).
